-The second album in the 'On The Dancefloor With ...' series on Bear Family Records®. -Highly entertaining and wholly danceable compilation featuring 25 of the finest examples from a world that stayed infected with twist fever for years in the early '60s. -Great popular selections from Hank Ballard - who kicked off the twist craze, Jerry Lee Lewis, the Isley Brothers, Gary 'U.S.' Bonds and many others. -And - as you would expect from Bear Family Records®: a variety of recordings by rather unfamiliar artists like The Top Notes or Paul Livert and The Lions and twist records by artists you would rather put elsewhere ... -Produced by Nico Feuerbach and accompanied textually with biographies and excerpts from interviews by Chicago's Bill Dahl in the booklet. -The recordings come from the best possible sources and have been carefully mastered for this edition. The whole world was Twisting during the early 1960s. It was the dance craze to end all dance crazes, bands around the globe jumping on the bandwagon to add their own variations to the theme. We ended up with a massive repository of Twist recordings, two dozen of them comprising 'On The Dance Floor With a Twist.' Naturally, the man who started it all, Hank Ballard, is aboard, though not with the anthem that you might expect. Jerry Lee Lewis tearing through I've Been Twistin' might be a shocker to the uninitiated, while veteran bluesman Piano Red's The Double Twist is a delight. The Isley Brothers, Gary 'U.S.' Bonds, Jo Ann Campbell, and Danny and The Juniors check in with classics, while The Ventures, the Glen Campbell-led Gee Cees, and The Champs prove that no lyrics were required to go Twisting. Eddie Clearwater's Twist Like This will leave you swearing you're hearing a lost Chuck Berry classic; Dale Hawkins waxed his Do The Twist live in Miami, and The Top Notes' original Twist And Shout is a real eye-opener.

Press Quotes

Germany's Bear Family Records has taken 25 tunes from the dance craze of the early '60s--The Twist--and put 'em On The Dancefloor With A Twist which opens with the man who wrote 'The Twist,' Hank Ballard, who squandered his opportunity for a hit when it was only put on the b-side of the infinitely inferior 1958 'Teardrops On Your Letter.' Chubby Checker then took it to #1 two years later. The Twist was such a cultural phenomenon, First Lady Jackie Kennedy did the dance in The White House and artists here like Jerry Lee Lewis, Gary U.S. Bonds, The Marvelettes, Danny & The Juniors, The Ventures, The Isley Brothers and others all jumped on the bandwagon with their own twist records.
