Opaluna is the debut, self-titled album featuring vocalist Susana Pineda and guitarist Luis Salcedo. The album showcases ten tracks of original compositions and arrangements, blending Latin rhythms, jazz sensibilities, and intricate interplay. The group was formed at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley, California, and has gone on to perform all over the Bay Area and various cities of Colombia, such as MedellÃn, Bogotá and Cali. Their unique sound and repertoire captivate their audiences everywhere they go. One of the things that makes this duo special is the fact that Susana is originally from MedellÃn, Colombia, and Luis is a Bay Area native. This phenomenon creates a colorful mixture of culture, rhythms and traditions through the musical intermingling of their different backgrounds. Featured on the album are special guests John Santos and Jeff Denson adding their virtuosity to this project. Followers of John Santos will be pleased to find the warmth he imparted on his feature tracks "Baile de Opuestos" and "Mahjong." Each of these two songs demonstrates his versatility and absolute mastery of multiple percussion instruments. Fans of Jeff Denson will immediately appreciate the emotional content of the album, and the depth of expression as Jeff lends his easily identifiable bass playing and extended techniques to the song "Does it Rain on the Moon?". Jeff is also featured on "Instinto Ornitológico," singing background vocals and adding an irresistible groove to the song. Not only does Denson appear as a special guest, but he also produced the album. Their music allows them to explore every facet of their given instrument and, by incorporating electronic techniques to create new textures and effects, they push the boundaries of what two musicians are capable of doing building. This album will take you on a new path around the world of contemporary music and leave you wanting more.
