This recording of music played on pre-Columbian wind instruments was inspired by an incredible experience in the desert of Chancay Valley in Northern Peru. Mo Fini, founder of Tumi Music, happened upon the graveyard of a chancay settlement (100 BC-AD 1200). This happens rarely when the wind moves away the sand to uncover the treasures beneath. Minutes later it would be covered by sand again. He picked up a pre-columbian quena and was inspired to find out more. Years later he saw similar instruments played in remote indigenous communities in Peru and was reminded of his experience. Recording this music he then shared it with Pachatusan, who specialise in Pre-hispanic music. Using only pre-Columbian instruments, they spent 4 years producing this album. They sing and perform to celebrate life, birth and eternity as well as to cure psychological, spiritual and physical illness. Through their work we gain a never-ending supply of life force and enerty. The word Pachatusan is the name of a sacred mountain above Cuzco and can be split up into "Pacha", meaning the earth and "tusan" meaning to support, to look after. Inkari is the spirit of the Inca. The instruments played include a variety of bamboo panpipes, various drums, ocarinas, other percussion instruments and a range of quena - an Inca flute played from the top. In their own words: "From our inherited traditions, we have learned that sound is cosmic, a divine creation, and for this reason music helps mankind to become part of the universe. We present this work in order to share the peace and harmony that our ancestors fought for." Pachatusan.
