Pee Wee Ellis, known as the architect of the James Brown Sound- is again looking into his jazz roots and selected his favorite Duke Ellington related tunes to celebrate the master´s music. To make things a little bit different he choose to record this dedication with an an amazing pianist, Danny Grissett, as his musical partner. Of course you will find wonderful classics as Satin Doll, Perdido and Sophisticated Lady. But also not so often-heard gems like Take The Coltrane or Warm Walley are included in this amazing program. Pianist Grissett who has been a member of Tom Harrell´s and Jimmy Pelt´s band for years besides doing his own trio is a very rhythmically strong performer who adds a more than solid base for Ellis´solo excursions. Ellis is really one of the strongest tenor players around and again shows what he learned from his mentor Sonny Rollins as a young student in the late fifties.
