Even if skillfully played and mastrfully written, intricate, complex and mesmerizing, the music of Pestifer is really different from the rest of today's trendy Tech Death Metal scene, running on edits, samples and whatever studio tricks and software: it doesn't show off, it's not meant to be spectacular, it's a honest band playing its stuff a bit like the Great Old Ones of Atheist, (late) Death, (early) Atrocity, Pestilence, Cynic and the likes have always done. Overly technical, but never forgetting technique is a mean, not an aim, and it's only meant to serve the atmsophere, concept and song-writing. As such, and as the contrary of many, they opted with "Expanding Oblivion", for a nearly live recording that, even if sounding huge and razor-sharp, retranscript what the very soul of the band is: musicians playing their stuff and creating worlds with it, not like people plugged to machines. The concept album, dealing with creatures that used to live in a lethal and chaotic part of the Universe, had to develop a very advance technology to survive and backed themselves up in vessels/servers to roam the Universe, absorb other civilizations, combining all of their thoughts and emotions into a superior collective being, sometimes using biological envelops they create to visit other worlds and interact with other species, at times just surveilling them all, from all points of the Universe, as a kind of supervisor... Mesmerizing, dark, menacing and immense. That's both the story behind the album and what you'll feel listening to it... Resistance is Futile!
