REBELLION was formed in 2001 by Tomi Göttlich (bass) and Uwe Lulis (guitar) after their split from Grave Digger. The debut album "Shakespeare's Macbeth - A Tragedy In Steel" was released in 2002; an album where metal hymns and passages from Shakespeare's original text were skillfully entwined, which received rave reviews and which has meanwhile gained cult status. In the past decade, the albums "Born A Rebel" (2003), "Sagas Of Iceland - The History Of The Vikings Volume I" (2005), "Miklagard - The History Of The Vikings Volume II" (2007), "Arise: From Ginnungagap To Ragnarök - The History Of The Vikings Volume III" (2009). "Arminius - Furor Teutonicus" (2012) und "Wyrd Bið Ful Aræd - The History Of The Saxons" (2015) followed. Uwe Lulis (now a member of Accept), Gerd Lücking and Simone Wenzel left the band in late 2010. Encouraged by fan comments, Tomi Göttlich (bass) and Michael Seifert (vocals) decided to continue with REBELLION and they started to re-assemble the band. Oliver Geibig (guitar), Stephan Karut (guitar) and Matthias Karle (drums) then joined the band. Timo Schneider was introduced as the new drummer, after Matthias Karle left the band due to private reasons. Tommy Telkemeyer is playing the drums since 2016. With a new drummer on board, the band decided to realize an ambitious project: All songs of the upcoming album should be developed and practiced in the band's rehearsal room; an unusual approach for professional musicians nowadays. The band entered the Tonetown Music Studios of guitarist Oliver Geibig soon after to record the new album "A Tragedy In Steel Part II: Shakespeare's King Lear". The dark atmosphere of Shakespeare's text should also be implemented musically, that is why this album is a rather slow album for REBELLION, and is characterized by a dark and gloomy atmosphere. The emerging sound resembles the live sound of the band and leans against the sound of big classic metal albums of the late 70's and 80's.
