The pianist and singer Russudan Meipariani is originally from Tbilisi/Georgia and today lives in Stuttgart. At the early age of five, it was clear that she should become a pianist; the first years of her musical education were thus marked by fear and considerable pressure to perform. She also felt restricted during her later study of music in the Georgian capital. At the age of 21, she started to develop her own music, based on her voice as the instrument. She later wrote small compositions for woodwind instruments and "a cappella" songs for several parts. From the end of the 90s, she gave concerts as a pianist in the "Daphioni" piano trio with which she won awards at international chamber music competitions. She came to Germany when she was 24 and studied composition with Wolfgang Rihm at the Conservatory in Karlsruhe. Here, she became acquainted with a contemporary music which she appreciated very much but which was not to be of great inspiration to her in her own musical development. Rather, her personal musical career was influenced decisively by her fascination for African music and her meeting with an Indian singer. With Sandeep Bhagwati, Russudan Meipariani became more familiar with Indian, Arabic and Korean music. After studying in Germany for two years, she spent two exchange semesters at the Conservatory in Oslo and studied for one year with Lasse Thoresen. This stay in Norway as a great inspiration to her; having not done so for a long time, she started to sing again and began to develop her very own onomatopoeic song. On her return to Germany, she continued to concentrate on her voice and composed the "Lieder aus einer Insel" cycle (Songs from an Island).
