Roll on SNOWBALL !! During October 1977 four of the most distinguished European musicians founded the band SNOWBALL. Drummer Curt Cress shortly before left DOLDINGER'S PASSPORT. Together with Dave King (bass, keyboards), who amongst others played with VOLKER KRIEGEL, DONNA SUMMER and WOLFGANG DAUNER he built the core of this new supergroup. Keyboarder Kristian Schultze, also from PASSPORT, joined them. The quartet was complete with Roye Albrighton, guitar-player and singer for long years of the band NEKTAR. They agreed upon the name SNOWBALL and started with recordings for their debut-album in November 1977. During a German tour starting in December 1977 the band tested their new song material live on stage. Very successful ! During March 1978 the album „Defroster" (Atlantic 50 463) has been published, which not only elated the fans but also the reviewer. This success, which was no surprise, depends on the musical creativity of the four band members as well as on their longterm experience as professional musicians. This lucky combination finally made this success possible. The musicians moved virtually between the poles of Rock and Funk, whereas the melodical singing-passages on one side and the funky rhythmic foundation and voluminous keyboard-passages on the other side defined the typical sound of SNOWBALL. And especially this sound was hip! In the Germany as well as in the foreign countries. Extended tours have been the result but also some problems. On the following album Roye Albrighton wasn't any longer on board. What has left is an album which reached highest international standards also from today's point of view and remains as a timeless document!
