Born in an art school dorm room, SQUAAKS is the lovechild of a toy wurlitzer keyboard and a four track cassette recorder. This passionate union resulted in a diverse litter of tunes. Squaaks is: Virat Shu-kla singer/guitarist (ex-The Oranges Band), along with Elena Fox (co-star of The Food Network's hit reality series The Ace Of Cakes) on bass/vocals, powerhouse Two If By Sea drummer Charles Cole, and talented multi-instrumentalist Justin Custer on guitar/keyboards. Many years in the making, the band kept total creative control during their drawn-out writing process for their debut, and Virat labored to make one demo after another until he was sure the artistic chemistry in the band was just right. Throughout the process they relied on Virat's hands-on DIY approach to the recording process. In doing so, the band managed to craft a CD that is as artistically refreshing as it is whimsically organic. "Rock Control is nothing if not fun: 30 minutes of fun-before-fashion bopalong guitar rock that recalls Warhol contemporaries T. Rex, The Kinks, and maybe some Beatles for good measure...Put 'em together with Squaaks' warehouse of guitar hooks...and Rock Control's a fine ride. It's an exciting take." -Michael Byrne (City Paper, 9/26/07) "The band's description of their own sound as 'visceral guitars, driving rhythm and catchy melodies' is right on the money. Part 60's garage rock, part 80's post-punk, their new album Rock Control is filled with songs that are lighthearted and catchy." - www.bagofsongs.blogspot.com, 10/10/07
