This is the product of a joint venture between Acrobat and renowned jazz label Storyville, whereby Acrobat is releasing rare material from the Storyville archives. This collection comprises hitherto completely unreleased material (not even on LP) by the great swing era and Dixieland trumpeter Teddy Buckner with an all-star line-up. The set consists of 4 complete, unedited radio broadcasts recorded during the Dixieland revival of the '50s at Club Hangover in San Francisco. Buckner played a ten-week season there from July to September 1955, with a half-hour 'live' remote being broadcast on KCBS at 11pm every Saturday, each show including an intermission solo by pianist Joe Sullivan. The recording quality is fantastic, and no enhancement has been necessary to reproduce the dynamics and ebullience of the performances. The intros and links by CBS announcer (and subsequently jazz archivist) Bob Guerner, plus audience response, capture the atmosphere of the shows, making this a marvellous snapshot of what was going on in SF's buzzing jazz scene of the '50s, where the Dixieland revival was rubbing shoulders with emerging cool school stars like Dave Brubeck. This is a collection which is bound to enjoyed by collectors and enthusiasts, and is a welcome addition to catalogue available by this sometimes overlooked musician and bandleader, and the cameo performances by pianist Joe Sullivan are equally entertaining. Featured musicians : Teddy Buckner (tp,vcl), William Woodman,jr (tb), Joe Darensbourg (cl,ss), Harvey O. Brooks (p), Arthur Edwards (b), Jesse Sailes(dr).
