Philadelphia-based indie rock band The Teeth disbanded abruptly back in 2008, just as they were being touted by the likes of the New York Times, Rolling Stone, SPIN, Paste and more. However, partly due to Spotify's Discover Weekly algorithm arbitrarily sending millions of listeners their way, the band's music lives on more than a decade later -- with material now being released on vinyl for the first time ever. The Teeth: A Compilation is a double vinyl collection of two records from The Teeth (You're My Lover Now and Carry the Wood), plus a smattering of bonus material - out now via Park the Van Records. This 2xLP comes packaged in a gatefold jacket.

Started in 2001, The Teeth were fronted by twin brothers Peter MoDavis (bass, vocals) and Aaron MoDavis (guitar, vocals), along with Brian Ashby (guitar) and Jonas Oesterle (drums). The band toured the country with Dr. Dog and performed at SXSW to much acclaim, developing their own punk rock sound with stylings of Queen, David Bowie, The Beatles and beyond. Their first full-length album through Park the Van Records was Carry the Wood (2005), followed by You're My Lover Now (2007). Last year, The Teeth's "Ball of the Dead Rat" single from their second album randomly began showing up on people's Spotify Discover Weekly playlists, leading the song to over 1.7 million Spotify plays now and many new fans for the band, as reported by The Hard Times and this meticulously detailed video review by Shannon Strucci.

Press Quotes

Exhilarating...these songs are worth decompressing.

     —New York Times

'You're My Lover Now' seems to channel the Kinks, the Who... all Brit-poppy harmonies, scrappy energy and weirdly endearing touches.

     —Rolling Stone

This ragtag Philadelphia foursome has hooked a small army of fans with their frenetic live shows and their dark, intelligent recordings.

     —SPIN

The Teeth could be an alternative energy source should ethanol be a bust.

     —Paste/Daytrotter
