'60s Brit band The Troggs are garage music forefathers and are cited as influences on numerous alternative and punk bands such as The MC5, R.E.M., The Buzzcocks, The Fleshtones and countless others. Their classic rock hit "Wild Thing" is an international classic covered numerously from Jimi Hendrix, X, Fancy and Siouxsie & The Creatures. Other songs are revered and often covered including "Love Is All Around", "With A Girl Like You" and "I Can't Control Myself'. The band recorded 4 studio albums in the '60s before a hiatus in the early '70s. They recorded 2 albums in the mid-part of the decade with The Troggs Tapes (not be confused with the legendary spoken word tapes) in 1976. This 12-track album has a '70s glam-punk sound with raucous tracks like "Supergirl" and "Down South to Georgia" along with cover versions of Rufus Thomas's "Walkin' the Dog" and Brendon Dunning's "Rock and Roll Little Lady".

Press Quotes

Both sides are represented on The Trogg Tapes, a newly reissued 1976 LP (which should not be confused with The Troggs Tapes, a bootleg that captures the band's members arguing in the studio). Featuring the Troggs' original lead singer, Reg Presley, and drummer, Ronnie Bond, the album includes gentle mid-tempo numbers like 'After the Rain' and 'I'll Buy You an Island' as well as rhythmic hard rockers such as 'We Rode Through the Night' and a version of 'Gonna Make You,' a song they first released in 1966.

     —Jeff Burger, Best Classic Bands

The original Troggs Tapes was a semi-official EP featuring a diatribe of The Troggs arguing in the studio (allegedly the inspiration for Spinal Tap) and to cash in and exploit that debacle the band released their very own The Troggs Tapes. Unleashed in 1976 and featuring 11 tracks of the best in melodic rock The Troggs Tapes perfectly positioned The Troggs as the steppingstone between glam rock and new wave.

     —Peter Dennis, The Midlands Rocks

Reg Presley assembled a solid bunch of songs and his snotty, snarling vocals and the dazzling twin guitar leads of Colin Fletcher and Richard Moore make this a proto-punk classic.'
