Throne of Heresy release their ambitious new concept album Decameron on November 3rd through The Sign Records. The album depicts the horrors of the Black Death in the 14th century. Much like the book it takes its name from, Decameron revolves around 10 stories, beginning with the first known victims of the plague in Asia and moving through the known world, ending on the band's native Ostrogothian soil. Throne of Heresy teamed up with producer Magnus "Devo" Andersson (Marduk) to create a blend of heavy riffing and atmospheric, sometimes even chaotic, melodies wrapped in an earthy and dynamic soundscape. Making a concept album about the Black Death sets the bar high. The music is more uncompromising and bleak than on the band's previous outing, Antioch. A lot of work has gone into creating the right mood and ambience, adding unusual elements that play their part in making an album that displays a decade of the darkest part of human history. Guest vocals by Karl Beckman (King of Asgard/ex-Mithotyn) add another dimension in the pagan/folkish direction without leaving the blackened death metal trenches. Tomas Göransson's creative song writing is embellished by the progressive drumming of Mathias Westman (Vanhelgd, King of Asgard) and the steady guitar and bass work of Lars Björkens & Björn Ahlqvist. Fronted by Thomas Clifford's (Abscession, Blood of Serpents) vocal and lyric work, Decameron is a force to be reckoned with - almost 700 years after the Black Death laid waste to mankind. The somber cover art was made by Mattias Frisk from Vanhelgd. Mattias has previously created artwork for bands such as Ghost, Morbus Chron, The Great Discord and Vampire. Throne of Heresy released their previous album Antioch in 2016 on The Sign Records, an album that Close-Up Magazine called "A magnificent hybrid of modern death metal and bombastic black metal" and Der Hörspiegel "A blackened death metal album can't get much better than this.".

Press Quotes

'A magnificent hybrid of modern death metal and bombastic black metal'

     —Close Up Magazine

If you like melodic, symphonic death metal, this album will not disappoint. Treasure trove hunters tend to seek out records that few of their friends would hasten to recommend due to hype, and Throne of Heresy fits the profile.

     —Echoes and Dust, http://echoesanddust.com/2017/08/throne-of-heresy-

'Decameron' is a work of art, and THRONE OF HERESY outdone themselves with this one. If you're a devotee of the aforementioned genres, then this discovery will certainly be worth your time.

     —Metal Temple, http://www.metal-temple.com/site/catalogues/entry/

Decameron is the historical travelings of the black death in three chapters, starting in Asia and working its way into Europe. It's more than just a death metal record, thought it is primarily such.

     —Metal Injection, http://www.metalinjection.net/av/full-album-stream

Decameron is a high point for death metal in 2017

     —Broken Amp, http://brokenamp.com/throne-of-heresy-decameron/

It's hard not to be impressed by Throne of Heresy's use of melody throughout Decameron. Whether it be the sorrowfulness of The Plague Ships, the wondrous clean singing on the title track or the subtle nature of the finale, The Pale Burden.

     —Games, Brrraaains & a headbanging life, https://gbhbl.com/album-review-throne-heresy-decam

A very suiting concept is the perfect vehicle for the band to capitalize on their melodic strengths, while bringing them to a new level with a darker overall mood. Solid death metal from beginning to end.

     —Dead Rhetoric, http://deadrhetoric.com/reviews/throne-of-heresy-d

The music is refreshingly straightforward and melodic, reaching often for inspiration to the work of fellow Swedish death metallers Amon Amarth, while still challenging the listener with rhythmic and structural surprises

     —Invisible Oranges, http://www.invisibleoranges.com/throne-of-heresy/

'Liber Secretorum' sees the band settle into a deep death metal groove, delivering growls and spoken word bits with an almost ritualistic cadence and fervor

     —Decibel Magazine, https://www.decibelmagazine.com/2017/10/25/track-p

Decameron is a monument to destructively heavy, blackened death and metal in every shape and form. Buy this record immediately. It needs to wind up on every fan and critic's top ten list at end of year, for sure.

     —New Noise Magazine, http://newnoisemagazine.com/review-throne-heresy-d

If you are a fan of concept albums, enjoy getting into the lyrics of well crafted songs or just like your metal epic, then you need to go out and get your hands on 'Decameron' by Throne of Heresy.

     —Maximum Metal, http://www.maximummetal.com/reviews/revresults.asp

a release that is definitely a contender for one of the best releases of the year!
