Three years in the making, Three Novellas for Guitar and Orchestra is a signature collection of audiophile masterworks composed by award-winning guitarist Toulouse Engelhardt.

Integrating jazz, folk and classical expressions into a tableau of imaginative, symphonic color, Three Novellas is crafted into an instant classic.

String visions of these three tone poems will send listeners on a sonic odyssey to mythological worlds of mermaids, UFOs, and interstellar, mathematical space.

Three Novellas is deeply influenced by the masters of French impressionism: Debussy, Ravel and Satie. Innovators of the early Twentieth Century, Bartók and Schönberg, have also given inspiration to Engelhardt -- whose "neo-classical jazz" compositions reflect the inventive arrangements of Andre Segovia and jazz greats Pat Metheny and Wes Montgomery, as well as the guitar forms of Kenny Burrell.

Three Novellas for Guitar and Orchestra are multi-movement, interconnected suites, reminiscent of mythical stories from the past. A mosaic of sound leads listeners by suggestion, atmosphere, and novelty. While exploring uncommon simplicities in Engelhardt's music, you can imagine lyrical and sonic visualizations -- while painting your own imagery.

Special guests include Monique Donnelly (soprano), Mark Robertson (concertmaster), Mike Deutsch (percussion), and Cristina Montes Mateo (harp).

Music director and conductor, Christopher M. Allport, has assembled a superb cast of international symphonic talent -- emerging from Los Angeles Philharmonic, Hollywood Chamber Orchestra, San Diego Symphony, Orchestral de Paris -- and beyond. Evoking a totality of sonic pleasures, from worlds yet untapped, Engelhardt and Allport evoke feelings of mystery, pleasure, and sensory stimulation in this magnificent pastoral fantasia.
