Watoto From The Nile represents the potential future of the music industry. In 2010, these young girls released their first hit, "Won't Quit," a very upbeat, charismatic and motivational song. Formed by three sisters and two of their friends in their home town, Harriet Tubman City (Baltimore, MD) Watoto From The Nile have come to silence all notions of the youth being lost and out of control. These young ladies Nya, Kamaria, Mary Antanira And Jalynn are a young African-centered, thought-provoking, socially and culturally conscious music group. In February 2011, after months of writing and practicing, Watoto From The Nile released "Letter to Lil Wayne," a riveting music video aimed at stopping the negative images of Black Women in Lil Wayne's music. The video became a Youtube hit, getting nearly 1.1 million views, and was featured on the most popular hip-hop site in the world (WorldStarHipHop.com). Everyone who believes music must change ultimately has to become a part of the change themselves. After receiving hundreds of emails from fans, bloggers, reporters, and community activists, Watoto From the Nile worked diligently to write and record their album. Calling it "The Chosen One," the album is a testament that music can be used for much more than to propagandize messages of negativity and destruction. The "money, cash, drug and women-bashing" days of music are very much coming to an end. These young divas are leading the way for change. Watoto From the Nile continues to nurture their talents by undergoing training in singing, song-writing, and acting. The youth have continued the legacy of their foremothers and fathers and now is the time for revolution in music. It starts now!
