"Guitar rock three-piece made up of members of Buffalo hardcore heroes Everything Falls Apart. No core here though, it's driving punk rock that almost sounds like Marked Men with a heavier and less pop-punk delivery. The hooks are there, but with a darker and more angsty tone. Reminds me a little of the more emotive guitar dynamics of the RFTC/Hot Snakes crew as well. Forceful vox and guitar, recorded with a slight bit of fuzz to give it that needed edge. Both A-Side tracks are tough hits and ""1995"" on the flip is recommended listening as well. Western NY has a lot going on these days, and the Whale are elbowing their way to the front of the DIY pack with this impressive debut and some high energy live sets." - Terminalboredom.com White Whale are three guys from Buffalo, NY who wanted to make a new sound come out of the Rust Belt. A style that had the guitar driven angst of their city, but borrowed from various southern California punk rock institutions to create a sound that is all their own, but has a familiar ring to ite. They have released their first single on their own label and then Big Neck found them. Being huge lovers of Drive like Jehu, Rocket from The Crypt, and the Hot Snakes Bart Hart from Big Neck Records almost ran straight to Buffalo to get them to agree to a record. White Whale recorded 2 songs that represent their sound perfectly. Crazed punk rock with a very nice Rocket from the Crypt flavor. Their live set is much like their sound, unique and balls to the wall. In DC they hit the stage and blasted through a 20 minute set non-stop, not even taking a breath when they switched instruments half way through. It was a sight and a sound that I had not heard in a while and it left me shocked and in awe. They were GREAT!
