MVD Entertainment Group is a full service music and movie distribution firm, exclusively representing thousands of audio and visual products for DVD, Blu-ray, CD, vinyl and digital rights, worldwide. MVD also exclusively distributes a growing line of merchandise including limited edition collectibles, t-shirts and more.

We sell to both major chains (such as Redbox, Family Video, FYE, Best Buy and Barnes & Noble) and great independent shops (Newbury Comics, Waterloo Records, Amoeba and hundreds more). We also sell to online retailers (such as Amazon.com and CD Universe) and work with a wide variety of mail order companies and specialists (such as Gotham and Collectibles and Universal Direct).

Product Setup Deadlines

The MVD Release Schedule lists the remaining setup deadlines for the year. Note that there are two street dates per setup deadline: one for music titles, and one for non-music video titles. The music street date applies to CDs, music DVD and music Blu-ray. Video requires a longer lead time than music.

Assets Required by the Setup Deadline

MVD requires the following by the setup deadline. We cannot setup your title if we don’t receive all of these assets by the setup deadline.

  • Front cover art: A high-res (1400 pixels wide), flat (not 3-D or box view) JPG of the front cover art. This must be the final cover art customers see on shelves (not the poster or other promotional artwork) and should not include DVD logos, CD logos or credit blocks.
  • A great setup: Help MVD better sell your title by providing the following:
    • Synopsis: 400 words describing the who, what, where, why and when. A strong synopsis includes:
      • Intro: Key info should be in the first 2 sentences. State exactly what the product is. Film, documentary or performance? If a performance, where and when filmed?
      • Product-specific info: What does it include? Hit songs, special interviews or a performance from a notable actor?
      • Background info: Why is this artist or film/documentary relevant?
      • Conclusion: What is the benefit of owning this?
    • Tagline: A quick, 120 character summary of the title.
    • Extras: Bonus features, such as trailers, outtakes or commentary.
    • Press quotes: Brief excerpts from strong reviews.
    • Sales points: Selling points such as why relevant, special guests, an upcoming tour/release or a marketing push accompanying the release.
    • Trailer or clip: Provide a YouTube ID for the trailer or a SoundCloud URL for an audio clip.
    • Track listing: For music-related titles.
    • Verify important details, including: title name, format, genre, SRP, run time and number of discs.
    • Examples of well setup titles: Music-related DVD, CD, Documentary
  • If MVD is releasing a digital version of your title, we also need a digital master and digital art by the setup deadline.

 

Pricing

MVD sells at the following prices for video and audio. This pricing reflects the standard wholesale charts, but note that MVD has the right to discount according to our agreements with our labels.

New Release Book

MVD publishes a monthly new release book that is mailed to approximately 1500 entertainment industry buyers. Inclusion in the book costs $25 per title. Additional placement can be purchased at $300 for a full page color ad.

If you're purchasing a full page ad in MVD's New Release Book, print-ready ad art should be provided per our sales sheet requirements. Alternatively, MVD can design your ad for an additional $100.

Placement is not guaranteed; MVD reserves the right to choose which advertisements it runs. And the front and back cover of the book are not for sale (editor's choice).

Marketing Opportunities

Priority releases should have a budget allocated for marketing, promotion and publicity. MVD will suggest your initial budget based on your initial order expectations, which must be included with your product setup data. You may adjust the overall budget with our marketing representative. Once confirmed, our marketing team will create a custom marketing budget.

You then may approve the budget or remove certain line items from the budget. We generally recommend a well rounded approach to marketing, including retail marketing, consumer marketing, publicity and social media marketing.

Additional Publicity Services

Understand that not all approved retail marketing necessarily occurs; retail has to agree to the programs that you approve, and they don't always cooperate.

Missed release date

  • Within 5 weeks of release date, no fee
  • Within 4 weeks of release date, three strike rule
  • On third strike MVD reserves the right to charge $500 per title per missed release date

Vendor requested fulfillment fees

  • $1.75 per shipment
  • Plus $.35 per unit
  • Plus actual shipping charges

New release book

  • $25 per normal cut in book
  • $300 for full page
  • $100 additional design fee if MVD designs ad for vendor.
